Regularly inspect metal parts and upholstery fabrics
Rusting of metal parts will reduce the strength of the material, causing the parts to break, and may cause secondary injuries to wheelchair users.
Damage to the fabric material of the seat cushion and backrest will cause the seat surface or backrest to tear and cause secondary injury to the user.
practice:
1. Check whether there is rust or corrosion on the metal surface. If rust is found, use special cleaning agents and tools to remove the rust, and spray a special protective agent;
2. Check whether the tension of the seat surface and backrest is appropriate. If it is too tight or too loose, it needs to be adjusted. Check the seat cushion and backrest for wear. If there is wear, replace it in time.
Clean wheelchair and seat cushions
Keep metal and non-metal parts clean to prevent damage caused by long-term dirt erosion.
practice:
1. When cleaning the wheelchair, use professional cleaning agent (you can also use soapy water) to wash and dry it. Focus on cleaning moving parts and where the upholstery fabric connects to the wheelchair frame.
2. When cleaning the seat cushion, the cushion filling (such as sponge) needs to be pulled out from the seat cover and washed separately. The cushion filling (such as sponge) should be placed in a dark place to dry, away from direct sunlight.
Maintenance points for manual wheelchairs
Oil moving parts
Keeps parts functioning smoothly and prevents rust.
practice:
After cleaning and drying the wheelchair, lubricate all moving parts bearings, connections, moving parts, etc. with a professional lubricant.
Inflate tires
Proper tire pressure can extend the service life of the inner and outer tires, make pushing and driving more labor-saving, and ensure the normal function of the braking system.
practice:
1. Inflating with a pump can increase the pressure of the tire, and deflating through the valve can reduce the pressure of the tire.
2. Check the tire pressure according to the tire pressure marked on the tire surface or press the tire with your thumb. Make sure that the pressure in each tire is the same. Normal tire pressure is a slight depression of about 5mm.
Tighten nuts and bolts
Loose bolts will cause parts to shake and cause unnecessary wear, which will reduce the stability of the wheelchair, affect the comfort of the wheelchair user, and may cause parts to be damaged or lost, and may even cause secondary injuries to the user.
practice:
Check that the bolts or nuts on the wheelchair are tight enough. Use a wrench to tighten loose bolts or nuts to ensure proper use of the wheelchair.
Tighten the spokes
Loose spokes can cause wheel deformation or damage.
